Surrounded by mountains and crisp air, the location of Buni I Bajraktarit awe-inspiring and a refreshing change from the fast-paced cities you may be used to. The spot, Qafa e Thores (Thore Pass), was once the clan leader’s watch post (that’s what the name translates to) – the flagbearer would sit and watch over his tribe and their flocks.
Today, this majestic spot is a beautiful restaurant that overlooks stunning mountainous terrain, and several wooden guesthouses. Buni is the highest restaurant in Albania, sitting at 1750 metres above sea level. The style and atmosphere of Buni I Bajraktarit is in keeping with tradition. A wood and stone structure, it almost seems as if it sits on the edge of the world.
Just before Qafë Thore is the quaint little town of Boga where residents continue to live a rustic life nestled in the bellies of the mountains. About an hour’s drive on, you’ll find Theth, an area that has been designated as a protected national park due to the outstanding beauty of the area. Guests staying at our guesthouse will never want for activities – hiking trails are everywhere at every kind of difficulty level. So, whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned walker, there’s something for everyone. Local guides can also be provided.
Fresh mountain air, breath-taking views, and a glass of grappa in your hand is what will greet you at Buni I Bajraktarit. For hikers who need a place to stop and rest, or those looking to spend the night in the mountains, the small and cosy guesthouses are perfect. Each pristine cabin comes with two single beds, and shared shower and bathroom facilities. Nights can be spent around the bonfire, and mornings can be spent watching the sun rise over the amphitheatre of mountains.
